How fast is a final transcript?

Click Talk and say a sentence or two. Each time you pause, the stopwatch shows how long it took to get the final transcript back.

–ms

processing time in our speech service

Say a sentence and pause. The full breakdown appears here.

Your browser will ask to use the microphone. English only.

35 ms median after Finalize, measured in US East; your network adds to what you see.

Other providers publish about 300–350 ms for final transcripts.

How the stopwatch works

  1. The page listens for a short pause (0.35 s) to decide you have finished. Voice agents choose this pause themselves, so it is not counted.
  2. At that moment the page sends a Finalize message. Our demo server starts a clock when it passes Finalize to the speech service, and stops it when the final transcript comes back.
  3. Part of that time is the network trip between our demo server and our speech servers. We measure that trip on every try and subtract it. What is left is the big number: the processing time in our speech service.
  4. Under the big number is the full sum: processing, plus the trip between our servers, plus your own internet round trip (timed in your browser, from sending Finalize to getting the final), equals what you felt.

Limits: 5 tries an hour, up to 30 seconds each, English only. Your audio is streamed to the speech service and is not stored. We keep only the time of each try, its length and the speed numbers, not what you said.

Use it in your app. The API is compatible with Deepgram's API, so most streaming clients and voice-agent frameworks work by changing the URL and the key. $0.30 per audio hour.
