Trump Closes Iowa Rally Vowing Voter ID, Sanctuary City Ban, 'Save America Act'; Claims Iran War Will Be Over 'Very Soon'
The president told a Dubuque crowd Republican control of Congress is needed to enact an immigration and election agenda, while defending his handling of prices and the war with Iran.
DUBUQUE, Iowa — President Donald Trump ended a rally of more than two hours here by telling Iowans that if they elect a Republican House and Senate on Nov. 3, "we will continue to put America first every single day," and pledging to pass voter identification, proof-of-citizenship requirements and the Save America Act, ban sanctuary cities and write a ban on men in women's sports into permanent law.
Iran war, prices and the economy
Trump said the war with Iran would end soon and that gas prices would fall afterward. "It's gonna be over very soon," he said, adding that gasoline would drop back to "the $1 and 85 cents that I saw in Iowa." He called higher oil prices "a very small price to pay for the security of this country and for the world."
Trump said he had "inherited high prices from sleepy Joe Biden" and claimed inflation over the last three months was 1.7 percent. He also said income had "soared to the highest level ever recorded." Later he said Venezuela had paid "10 times over" for the cost of the Iran war, saying of Venezuela: "we won the war in Venezuela in one day." He also said Maduro "is now awaiting trial." Those figures and the claim about the cost of the war are Trump's own and were not independently verified in the transcript.
He announced a "harvest fuel relief program" providing farmers $8 billion to offset diesel costs, including what he estimated at $400 million for Iowa farmers. He also said Democrats "hate farmers."
Midterm message and the Republican agenda
Trump framed the election as a choice between "the radical Democrat communist" and Republicans, saying Democrats would raise taxes by $5 trillion and give 25 million "illegal aliens amnesty and the right to vote." He said every Democrat in Congress voted against Republican tax cuts, including no tax on tips, overtime and Social Security, and against voter ID and proof of citizenship.
In his closing list, he said Republicans would pass the "no invasion of our country act," ban sanctuary cities and pass the death penalty for large-scale drug dealers, human traffickers and anyone who kills a police officer. He urged supporters to vote Republican and said he expected "a tremendous victory on Tuesday."
Candidates, allies and a Greenland aside
Trump endorsed Ashley Hinson for Senate and Zach Lane for governor and also named House candidates and incumbents, including Joe Mitchell, Chris McGowan, Mariannette Miller-Meeks and Zach Nunn. He praised House Speaker Mike Johnson, Majority Leader Steve Scalise, Interior Secretary Doug Burgum, envoy Steve Witkoff and Sens. Chuck Grassley and John Barrasso, and invited wrestling coach Dan Gable on stage.
Trump also said the U.S. had acquired Greenland "for $0" and that his deal there is "forever and ever." He said Denmark "was terrific."
Trump spent a long stretch on transgender athletes in women's sports, recounting a weightlifting story. After the rally he was set to fly to Kansas.

Okay, MAGA GOP on Trump. In the 2024 election versus Kamala Harris, he got
99% of the MAGA GOP vote. Perhaps surprisingly, I might have thought it would be 100%, but it
was 99%. Compare that to his approval rating now at the MAGA
GLP. It's 98%. That is, there's been no real decline in MAGA support.
These folks say that they're going to vote for congressional Republicans come the midterm elections.
Again, that's the 99% that Trump got against Kamala Harris. Look now, in terms of the congressional
vote, 98% of them say they're going to be voting for House Republican candidates. So that support
Is actually really holding up strong. It's really, really strong when it comes to
Mega GOP and Republicans holding on to that vote. This one. Okay. The president
Republicans most admire, it's Donald Trump. This is a historic comparison.
A majority of Republicans say, 53% say he's the Republican president they most
Admire. Ronald Reagan, who traditionally has won that match, Donald Trump nearly triples up on
This, Reagan at just 18%, and then Abraham Lincoln, who, by most historic accounts,
is the greatest president of all time, but Republicans say that the president that they most
admire by what is this, this is 6, 7 times as many, Donald John Trump at
53%, easily crushing Abe Lincoln at 8%, and the Elon poll showed that he was the greatest president

If you elect a Republican House and a Republican Senate on November 3rd, we will
